The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA)

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa is a Regional Economic Community in Africa with twenty-one member states.

All member states comprise a total area of 11.78 million km² and about 597.59 million people. This is 7.8% of the habitable area around the world and 7.7% of the world population. With an economic output of 850.71 billion US dollars annually, they represent around 1.0 percent of the global economy. The value of all exported goods of these 21 countries was 155.68 billion US dollars per year at last count.

COMESA provides A Free Trade Area (FTA), in which no tariffs are levied on goods from other Member States whilst each Member State applies its own regime of tariffs to goods imported from outside the region
