What MyEASOKO is

MyEASOKO is an independent private information platform on foreign trade within the East African Community (EAC). It gathers and explains public information on procedures, regulations, the customs tariff, corridors, institutions and business opportunities useful to importers, exporters, freight forwarders and investors operating across the EAC's eight member states: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia and South Sudan.

"Soko" is Swahili for "market". The platform's name and ambition are inspired by the original MyEASOKO initiative, a trade information tool for cross-border traders launched in November 2022 by the East African Business Council (EABC) with support from the International Trade Centre (ITC) under the One Trade Africa programme. This version of MyEASOKO is an independent project, rebuilt on a separate platform engine, and is affiliated with neither the EABC nor the ITC nor any public EAC institution.

What the platform offers

  • step-by-step procedures to import, export and transit across the region;
  • a duty and tax simulator based on the EAC Common External Tariff;
  • an institutions directory covering national revenue authorities, border posts and regional bodies;
  • a corridors map, including the Northern and Central Corridors;
  • a service providers directory for trade (freight forwarders, customs brokers, shipping lines, banks);
  • a selection of opportunities: investment, tenders and trade events;
  • JAHAZI AI, the platform's assistant, which answers from published content and cites its sources.

Independence

MyEASOKO is not a service of any government or regional organisation. The platform is not affiliated with any national or regional administration, institution or public body, and does not act on their behalf. Mentioning an institution, its texts or its data does not imply any partnership with it or endorsement by it. Official texts and the decisions of competent administrations always prevail over MyEASOKO content.

How content is produced

Each item cites its source: a publication from a national administration (for instance a revenue authority), the EAC Secretariat, or a regional organisation, with its consultation date. Unconfirmed points are flagged "to be verified". As the platform is being rebuilt, a significant share of content is still marked to be verified and will be completed progressively.

Reporting an error

If you spot outdated information or an error, use the contact page, stating the page concerned and, if possible, the up-to-date publication of the competent institution.
