The Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA) commended the East African Community on 8 October 2026 for its progress in modernising tax systems and facilitating trade through digital tools.

During a courtesy visit to EAC Headquarters in Arusha, on the sidelines of the 46th CATA Annual Heads Meeting and Technical Conference, hosted by Tanzania from 5 to 9 October 2026 under the theme "Leveraging Technology for Efficient Revenue Collection," Commissioners and Heads of Tax Administrations from CATA member states commended the EAC's efforts to strengthen customs cooperation, modernise revenue collection systems and use technology to support regional integration and economic growth.

The commendation comes as the EAC continues to roll out its Single Customs Territory and electronic cargo tracking tools, which aim to reduce clearance times and transit costs along the Northern and Central Corridors.
