EAC One Stop Border Posts (OSBPs)

One Stop Border Posts (OSBPs) combine the controls of two neighbouring countries on a single site to cut crossing times, as at Malaba, Busia, Rusumo or Mutukula.

The principle

An OSBP lets customs, immigration and health control officers of two neighbouring countries operate from a single physical site, generally on the destination country's side, so a vehicle stops only once to cross the border instead of facing two separate checks.

Examples in the region

Operational OSBPs in the region include Malaba and Busia (between Kenya and Uganda), Rusumo (between Tanzania and Rwanda), Mutukula (between Uganda and Tanzania), and Kagitumba-Mirama Hills (between Rwanda and Uganda).

Check before travelling

Opening hours, documents required at each post, and whether a post is fully operational (some OSBPs can be affected by temporary closures linked to bilateral tensions) should be verified directly with the revenue authority of the entry country before any trip.
