Objective

The Single Customs Territory (SCT) was introduced to reduce delays and costs in intra-EAC transit by allowing goods bound for a landlocked partner state to be cleared at their first point of entry into the EAC, rather than at every border crossed.

Corridors concerned

The SCT applies notably to the Northern Corridor (Port of Mombasa to Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, eastern DRC and South Sudan) and the Central Corridor (Port of Dar es Salaam to Rwanda, Burundi and eastern DRC).

Limits of this guide

The precise declaration arrangements, interconnected national customs IT systems and transit guarantee schemes in force are not detailed here: check with the revenue authority of the country of entry (KRA or TRA depending on the corridor) and the EAC Secretariat.
